The Summoning of the Leopard Demon: a Magical Memoir of the Sixties by Bill Heine
The meeting of Harry Smith and Lionel Ziprin was like a whirlwind. They were both scholars in the "magical arts" -- past and present. I was introduced to a unique bookseller at a small but very compact bookstore on 4th Avenue between 12th and 13th Streets. I spent many many hours there discovering incredible texts on the "Arts" -- Aleister Crowley being one of them, along with people like Yeats, C.S. Lewis, Madame Blavatsky, Erasmus of Rotterdam, Dr. John Dee, Eliphas Levi, and so on. Through the guidance of Harry Smith, I secured a dozen or so of these books. One in particular, "The Lesser Key of Solomon", held the key to activating the 72 Goetian Spirits. Being young and daring, I investigated a particular Spirit that could give one the powers to invoke him to grant one skills for sexual prowess with any particular woman so named. In other words, it concerned the unfailing procurement of sex – how to “get laid”. Of course I was not only daring but quite foolish, not considering the consequences of such an undertaking. The book was translated from Aramaic by Aleister Crowley for the Golden Dawn Society. This is what happened... There are 72 Goetian Spirits and their signs and prescriptions. I chose (I was young) a spirit, the 12th -- I won't write his name. His description went as follows: "S_____. The 12th Spirit is S____. He is a Great Prince and appeareth at first with a Leopard's head and the wings of a Gryphon but after the command of the master of the exorcism he putteth on human shape, and that very beautiful. He (she) enflameth men with Women's love, and Women with Men's love, and causeth them to show themselves naked if it be desired. He governeth 60 Legions of Spirits. His seal is this: [ ] (not shown for safety's sake), to be worn as a lamen before thee, etc." I went through with all the preliminary stuff -- prayers, the fixing of the 7 ft. circle drawn in black, of a 12 ft. serpent enhanced with magical Hebrew letters. The rest was circle, square, triangle, vessels, robes, implements for sound, smell, taste, touch, the mind. "The Spirits of the Goetia are portions of the human brain." (It is too painful to go into more details.) The energies are for invoking the Spirit into the triangle (I can't remember its true name). I finished the invocation and assumed that the Spirit was secured in the triangle. At that moment there was a knock at the door! I left the circle and went to the door -- opened it -- and there standing before me was an amazing figure of a beautiful woman wearing a leopard skin hat and coat. Wow! There was a strong smell which I couldn't identify. She immediately walked in without looking at me -- went through the room seeming to be familiar with the place -- and disappeared into the next room. I was startled, just standing there -- waiting. She actually vanished! After about 10 minutes I looked into the next room. She was naked on the bed fucking J.P. (a friend). About one minute later I looked again and she was gone -- probably in the next room with another friend. Five minutes or so later she reappeared, walked to the door without acknowledging me in any way, went through the door -- Poof! She was gone forever. I never saw her again, nor did J.P. or Dave. That's it!! The day before, when I set up the circle, the triangle, the censers (4 big brass ones), put on my robes, and arranged the furniture, I lit the censers to test them. I was burning myrrh and black pepper -- a lot of it. It was late spring; the windows were open. They burned quickly, with so much smoke that the Fire Department came, came in and put everything out with water, dumped the censers, and left without saying a word. A friend, Ronny Czerny, left with great haste when I lit the censers and never came back until weeks later. It was a great scene! Its memory is forever, I guess. As I say, it was a great scene -- both days -- forever! I never repeated or ever again practiced this "magic" or whatever you might call it. Wow!
